Association Genève à 2000 Watts

- The new head office of UICN at Gland: A model of sustainable building.
Since June 25th, 2007, Geneva has a new associative structure which aims at promoting the vision of the 2000-Watt society on the canton and beyond: the association " Genève à 2000 Watts ". It is about a non-profit-making and neutral organisation of political point of view which finds its source in the program Novatlantis and the pilot regions of Basel and Zurich, as well as in the general conception of energy of the Canton of Geneva (CGE0509) in which the objective to attain the society in 2000 watts without nuclear technology is apparently identified.
The idea was initiated two years ago by a group of academic geneva actors who wanted to see Geneva standing out as a third pilot region for the 2000-Watts society. In collaboration with Novatlantis, a working party was set up, uniting the main academic, public, political, associative, professional and economic actors of Geneva. In purpose, it is an associative structure which was chosen, with for founder members: Novatlantis, EIG (Engineers' school of Geneva), the Energy Center of EPFL, the University of Geneva, SIG (Industrial Services of Geneva), TPG (Public transport of Geneva), WWF Geneva, FEDRE (European foundation for the sustainable development of regions), CGI Property (estate agents) and OPI / CCSO (Service of industrial promotion).
The Association is aimed:
• to contribute actively to the evolution of the geneva society and vicinity towards an use of 2000 watt energies per head and to diminish its power consumption to return to a level compatible with a sustainable environment.
• to contribute actively to the fact that Geneva becomes a headlight in sustainable development and technological innovation.
• to develop and to apply concepts and innovative solutions in the domains of mobility, building, transformation of energy and of facilities.
• to motivate and to federate the competent institutions (academic, operators, facilitators) and circles representing the society through plans of wingspan as simple actions.
• to put in disposition a platform of exchanges with the different actors (associative, economic circles, state authorities) to make easier dialogue and flux of ideas and solutions. The association has as president Mr Jean - Mary Duret (manager of the EIG) and for vice-president Mr Claude Haegi (president of the FEDRE and ancient State adviser). (www.geneve2000watts.ch).

Project Eco-Quartier

As part of its strategy «100 % renewable in 2050», the city of Geneva initiated the project of developing the eco-district of Junction aiming at the realisation of a district at positive energy and 100 % renewable supply. The project includes the building of accommodation buildings, activities buildings, school, etc. for about a total 50 '000 m2 of ERS with minimums Minergie. Studies succeeded on meadow choice of a recovery of heat on wastewaters exit of a primary collector of 2,20 m of diameter located nearby. 1' 450 kW recovered thermals assure 100 % heating and health hot water of the eco-district. 3 '000 m2 of photovoltaic modules on the roofs of the buildings compensate for the electrical consumption of heat pumps entirely.
