Pilot and demonstration projects (P+D projects) are a key tool for testing sustainability technologies in construction and optimizing them for broad market application. Research and development needs are identified and information on sustainability technologies in the construction sector is disseminated.

- Zero-heating-energy construction of new research establishments in Dübendorf (Bob Gysin + Partner BGP Architects)
The novatlantis building forum supports P+D projects with respect to development and implementation. In the Basel pilot region, for instance, the "Novartis Campus of Knowledge " sets an example through its orientation to the goals of the 2000-watt society. The building of the new research establishments in Dübendorf, Forum Chriesbach, shows how heating needs can be minimized by means of purely structural measures to such an extent that they can be covered by the heat produced in the building anyway. The city of Zurich is restoring and expanding Triemli Spital as a 2000-watt hospital. Swiss Re is setting up an exemplary facility in terms of sustainability in Winterthur in the form of the "Schenkelwiese Süd" housing estate. In addition, talks are under way with numerous other interested investors and operators.
