Prof. Dr. Alexander Zehnder
Former President of the ETH Council

In order to secure a sustainable future for Switzerland, new technologies are needed; a “return to nature” is no longer possible. If the ETH assumes its responsibility as an educational and research institution, the sustainability of its wallflower role can become an integral part of our society. In this regard it also depends on Novatlantis, which implements research results into practice and can thus provide major advancements through the propagation of new technologies. To achieve the vision of a sustainable Switzerland, we have to utilize synergies. This means necessary joint efforts of sustainability institutions operating in the Zurich area.

Prof. Dr. Ralph Eichler
President of the ETH / Former Direktor of Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI)

Novatlantis takes research results and places them into a dialog with society. The goal is to lower primary energy consumption through an increase of efficiency. This is achieved by a reorganization of effective energy. In the near future, the greatest anticipated progress is within the building sector, as the power consumption could rise even under the circumstances in the interest of the whole energy consumption.

Robert Neukomm
Former town council and director of the Department of Health and Environment, city of Zurich

Zurich's town council set a goal for themselves of reaching the 2000-watt society together with the population and management, therefore placing an emphasis on energy, climate and environmental policies. In order for this great challenge to be successful, the support from Novatlantis is invaluable.

Barbara Schneider
Senior Civil Servant and Head of Building Department, Canton of City of Basel

Dealing with existing buildings is particularly crucial for the vision of the 2000-watt society in a city. If we do not want to wait until the majority of these energy-ineffective constructions reaches the end of their lifespans, we must construct suitable strategies and concepts today. That's why the canton of the city of Basel has launched a renovation competition at the MINERGIE-P ® standard. Innovative real estate owners and professional planners are to develop concrete projects as a team. The winners gain generous support - the property owners, value-raising investment possibilities.

Dr. Walter Steinmann
Director of the Federal Office for Energy (BFE)

Novatlantis is the flagship of the ETH domain for the 2000-watt society. It is important that we can collect concrete experiences along with this initiative and provide milestones for sustainable management in pilot regions. We can learn from these experiences and later also introduce important successful measures at a national level.

Primo Bianchi
Director Asset Management, Swiss Re

Within the scope of its commitment to climate protection, Swiss Re launched a program in 2003 with the purpose of becoming CO2 neutral within ten years, thereby rendering the department of Global Real Estate an essential component in the goal attainment. Quite in the sense of Novatlantis and vision of the 2000-Watt society, measures are being taken to not only apply the MINERGIE standard to new buildings such as real estate developments, but also utilizing C02-neutral or even C02-free sources of energy where possible and useful. Also included in this is the full optimized use of roof surface areas as photovoltaic assets.
