Effect of energy politics on the growth of the Swiss economy
ETH Life informs about the study
The climate problems and the separation of the fossil energy sources will strongly influence the development of economy in the future . A central part also plays energy politics and climate politics. In Switzerland different scenarios are thinkable according to possible specification of political default for energy future which reach from a "Business-as-Usual" up to the aim of a pro-head consumption of 2000 watts of energy or 1 tonne CO2. Besides, the reduktin of energy consumption and CO2 output can be defined for different time horizons and be aimed with different measures.

An important criterion for the choice and creation of energy-political objectives and instuments is their effect on growth and prosperity. During the last three years Zurich ETH in the professorship for resource economy, supported by the Federal Office for energy, carried out an extensive project on this subject. The anew developed CITE model integrates the varied dynamic elements which determine the growth in an economy. The effects of different political measures on growth and prosperity can be calculated with the help of the CITE model by the use to Switzerland in our country.
The project team of the ETH as well as representatives from science, politics and economy for Switzerland discussed new forecasts and possible solutions on March 11, 2010.
