Projects

The Basel pilot region developed out of cooperation between Novatlantis and the Building Department of the city of Basil canton, the Fachhochschule Nordwestschweiz (FHNW) (Basel university of applied sciences) and the University of Basel. It operates a “Practice-oriented laboratory of sustainability research” by supporting know-how transfer of research to practice while, on the other hand, research makes use of experience gained from practice. In Spring 2005 the parliament of the city of Basel canton approved a loan of 1.6 million Swiss francs.

Since the launch of the Basel pilot region in 2001 urban development and mobility issues have formed the focal point of applied research. While the mobility projects will be continued over a longer period of time, the focus in the building sector will shift as of 2004 from the large urban development projects to the application of new building technology and the implementation of exemplary pilot and demonstration projects in individual building projects with selected building investors.
