In Güssing, a small town in the southeasternmost corner of Austria on the Hungarian border, a new forward-looking method of wood gasification was demonstrated and utilized for operation of a wood-fired power station. Using wood from the region, the power station produces 2 MW of power and 4 MW of heat for the local district heating network.
For the project “Methane from wood” Güssing is not only an ideal location for technical testing of the catalytic methanation of wood gas, but is also a model for the implementation of sustainability visions in a local context.
